What the OctaFX demo gives you

Octa — still widely searched as OctaFX — offers a free demo on MT4, MT5 and its own OctaTrader app, with no deposit required. It is a good way to answer the question most of its Southeast Asian audience actually has: is the in-house app clearer on a phone than MetaTrader? What the demo cannot answer is the more important question about lighter regulatory oversight.

How to open a OctaFX demo account

  1. 1

    Register and create a demo

Sign up on Octa's site or in the app, then create a demo account. You pick the platform and the starting virtual balance.

  2. 2

Open demos on both OctaTrader and MetaTrader

This is the comparison worth making. OctaTrader is simpler and faster for opening a position from a phone; MT4 and MT5 give you more analysis tools but a denser interface on a small screen. A few days on each settles it.

  3. 3

Set the virtual balance to your real planned deposit

Octa's live minimum is around $25, so a large practice balance is especially unrealistic here. Practise with what you will actually fund.

  4. 4

Test on mobile data, not Wi-Fi

Most of Octa's audience trades from a phone on a mobile connection. Check how the app behaves when coverage drops mid-position, and make sure your stop loss is sitting in the market rather than depending on you closing manually.

  5. 5

Then test one tiny real deposit and withdrawal

Octa's selling point is local e-wallet funding with no broker-side fees. A demo shows you none of that friction. Deposit the smallest amount your method allows and withdraw the whole balance before you commit anything meaningful.

What this demo cannot teach you

A demo is the cheapest tuition available, and it has blind spots that matter. These are the ones specific to OctaFX:

  • Octa entities are typically registered offshore rather than with the FCA, ASIC or CySEC. The demo cannot show you what lighter oversight means if something goes wrong.
  • Local e-wallet deposit and withdrawal friction — the actual reason people choose Octa — is invisible in a demo.
  • Withdrawal speed. A demo has no cashier, so it cannot tell you how long real money takes to come back.
  • Slippage in fast markets. Demo servers usually fill you at the price you clicked; live ones do not, especially around economic releases.
  • Your own behaviour under real loss. Virtual money does not produce the impulse to widen a stop or double down, which is what actually empties accounts.

Octa and OctaFX are the same broker

Search results still say OctaFX; the brand now styles itself Octa. Reviews and comparison pages that treat them as two separate companies are simply out of date. If you are looking for an OctaFX demo account, this is it — the platforms, the app and the entities are the same.

The honest caveat a demo will not reveal

Octa's demo is perfectly good and the app is genuinely well made. Neither of those addresses the real trade-off: regulatory coverage is lighter than top-tier names, and availability varies — Octa was dropped from our India list after the RBI alert listing, asset freezes and a SEBI registration ban, and it appears on regulator alert lists in some other markets. If a top-tier licence is a hard requirement for you, XM, Exness's specific licensed entities, IC Markets or Plus500 are the comparison to make, and you should make it before you enjoy the app rather than after.

Clone sites and Telegram 'account managers'

Octa's popularity in Southeast Asia and Nigeria has attracted a well-established impersonation problem. The pattern is always the same: someone contacts you on Telegram, WhatsApp or Viber offering to open or manage the account, or points you at a lookalike site. Real onboarding happens on Octa's own domain or in the official app, and no legitimate broker ever needs your login. If you were introduced to Octa by a person rather than by searching for it, verify the domain before you type a password.
