For pairs quoted in USD (like EUR/USD), one standard lot makes a pip worth about $10. For other quote currencies, the exchange rate converts the value into your account currency.

What this tool actually tells you

A pip is worth a different amount on every pair, at every lot size, in every account currency. This calculator pins that number down — and almost everything else you calculate depends on it being right.

Get the pip value wrong and your position sizing, your stop distance in money, and your profit target are all wrong by the same multiple. It's the most boring input in trading and the one most worth being exact about.

Worked example

0.10 lots of GBP/JPY, account denominated in USD, with USD/JPY trading at 150.00.

One pip on a JPY pair0.01
Contract size at 0.10 lots10,000 units
Pip value in quote currency¥100
Converted — ¥100 ÷ 150.00≈ $0.67

About $0.67 per pip. Using the familiar $1-per-pip shortcut here would overstate your risk by roughly 50%.

How to read the result

  • JPY-quoted pairs move in 0.01 increments; most other pairs use 0.0001.
  • When the quote currency matches your account currency, pip value is fixed — EUR/USD on a USD account is $10 per standard lot, always.
  • On every other pair the value floats with the exchange rate, so it drifts between the day you calculate it and the day you trade it.

Common mistakes

  • Applying the EUR/USD $10 figure to gold, indices, or JPY crosses.
  • Mixing up pips and points — on five-digit pricing, ten points equal one pip, and brokers quote both.
  • Forgetting the conversion leg entirely on cross pairs, which is where the biggest sizing errors come from.
