What "best" actually means here

MetaTrader 5 is built by MetaQuotes, not by your broker — brokers license it and plug their own prices and accounts into it. That's why it looks identical everywhere, and why the skills and tools you build move with you if you change brokers.

Against MT4 it offers more timeframes, depth-of-market data, more asset classes beyond forex, and it's the version MetaQuotes actively develops. The catch is that MT4's enormous library of Expert Advisors doesn't run on it, which is the main reason MT4 is still around at all.

MT5 offered on the account type you'd actually open, not only on a premium tier
Desktop, mobile and browser access, so you aren't tied to one machine
Server stability and execution quality during busy sessions
The broker's own costs, which matter far more than the platform choice

Check these yourself before depositing

Download MT5 through the broker's own links and confirm the exact server name from the welcome email.
Open a demo on that server first — 'invalid account' on day one is almost always the wrong server, not a bad password.
Check the default lot size in the order window before your first trade; it is rarely the size you want.

The trade-off nobody advertises

MT5 is the better platform on the merits, but if you've built a workflow around specific MT4 Expert Advisors, none of it transfers. Decide based on whether you actually run robots, not on version numbers.
